Recelling & Sustainability
PAG is commited to minimising the effect of battery production on the environment
Increasingly, customers in our industry are expressing a desire for products that are manufactured in a way that reflects their concerns for the environment and use of the planet’s resources. At PAG we share those concerns, and we have responded in several ways.
Modular Battery Design
Mini PAGlink batteries are the first to feature PAG’s new modular design concept. This has a dual benefit of making the batteries easier to service locally, and allowing the authorised replacement of modules, including the cell-pack, whilst maintaining compliance with UN standards and IATA regulations for flight safety.
When the original cells no longer perform to a useful standard, it is possible to purchase a new cell-pack module and reuse the battery’s electronic modules, including the output units, the display, the protection circuit and the front and back of the battery case. This is a more sustainable approach to resources than discarding these components and contributing to the ever increasing amount of electronic waste. The cell-pack and the outer band are the only parts that will need to be replaced. Recelling your existing battery pack is not only kinder to the environment, it also benefits you economically.
A recelled PAG battery will cost approximately 70% of a new one, if all the modules are reused.
You can request recelling through your dealer or by contacting PAG Ltd. directly. The recelling service only applies to Mini PAGlink Batteries.
Please be aware that a cell-replacement, outside the control of PAG, invalidates the battery’s air transport credentials, and makes it a potential safety concern.
Working electronics and case parts can be reused,
which is a more sustainable use of resources
Regional Servicing at Authorised Centres
The modular battery design means that batteries can be serviced more easily at regional, authorised service centres. In many cases they can be returned without the need for an air cargo shipment.
Packaging Material
In its packaging, PAG has switched to using bio-degradable flakes and 100% recycled plastic instead of polystyrene foam and plastic bubble wrap. PAG has also moved away from using laminated board that cannot be recycled, and will continue to adapt its packaging in order to be more environmentally aware.
Recycling Service
PAG offers its UK customers a free recycling service for their expired Li-Ion batteries, in keeping with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive (now UK law), which requires manufacturers to accept and recycle returned products. Li-Ion cells are recycled to an efficiency’ of 59.3%.
