PAGlink meets the challenge for Caia Image

FEB 2014

Chris Newton is a London based photographer who has taken on the challenge of adding video production to his repertoire.

“As a photographer I realized I needed to add video to my skill base, so I have been honing my video skills for the last couple of years. Along side commissions, the bulk of my work is for Caia Image, an image library supplying contemporary advertising stills and video. I co-own this with a group of photographers working closely with Getty Images.

When we made the decision to add footage to Caia’s offering I purchased a shiny new Red Epic for that very purpose. I soon realised that I needed a lot of battery power as this camera is very power hungry. Prokit, the broadcast equipment dealership in west London, introduced me to the PAGlink battery system”.

PAGlink allows you to link multiple batteries, combining capacities and providing a 12A current draw capability, designed for power-hungry camera set-ups. PAGlink batteries can also be hot-swapped for constant power.

“My shoot days are full on, 12 hours a day, non-stop. Sometimes I shoot 5 days straight, and all on tight budgets. I am shooting with the Epic all day long and also need battery power for LED lights. I currently run 12 PAGlink batteries. Their design is brilliant, and so practical.

After a hard days shoot I have lots of empty batteries, I just want to plug-in a charger and then relax with a nice cold beer. I don’t want to be waking-up in the night to change the batteries over, or be surrounded by a wire jungle. With linked battery charging PAG has cracked the problem of charging all of the batteries overnight without lots of chargers. It’s such a simple system.

I travel a lot and I am away sometimes shooting for 5 weeks. When it comes to travelling overseas, I don’t want lots of bulky kit to take on a plane. The Micro Charger is another reason why the PAGlink system is such genius”.

The PAGlink Micro Charger is a single-channel, multi-battery charger that is smaller than a PAGlink battery, and ideal for light travel. It can be used to charge up to eight linked batteries, and is capable of fully charging four fully-discharged 96 Watt-hour batteries overnight.

The PAGlink system has been conceived so that you can fly with the high-capacity battery power that you need. The 96 Watt-hour PAGlink battery packs have been independently tested and approved in accordance with UN Air Transport Regulations. This means that unlike batteries that have capacities greater than 100 Watt-hours, and those that have not been tested, PAGlink batteries can be legally transported on passenger aircraft, to any location, without quantity restriction.

“The combination of the flight-friendly PAGlink batteries and this small, simple and effective charger is hard to beat for travel. It provides the maximum effect for minimum fuss and the smallest possible footprint. It makes my life so much easier. PAG designed this with end users in mind. It’s like they ran through a list of my problems and solved every one”.
